(Brit)Pop + Pulp

I have been writing quite a bit about illustration and music recently. Mostly because I feel like it.

In line with this trend, you have to see these portraits by Helena from Pop Pop Portraits. I heart them – a lot x infinity.

Each character she draws comes with a short paragraph of random facts about him/her.

This one is named Billy (I like boys’ names for girls) and she “can be a little hotheaded and brash […] is the youngest in a family of six siblings […] listens to Cocorosie [..] loves her Nana very much [and] also likes to bake banana bread”.

To top it off, these imaginary personalities are incredibly stylish. I feel a little silly saying this, but I am getting very inspired by many of these outfits.

It is so difficult to pick just a few drawings to post up here.

I found one who looks like me! 🙂 I will wear her hat in a jiffy.

And then I saw this one*. He is a real person – Jarvis Cocker, lead singer of Pulp, BritPop band from the ’90s!

Their songs were among the most played on my iPod circa 2005.

One thing led to another and about 7 minutes later, I’m streaming Common People, Disco 2000 and Cocaine Socialism (awesome names, you must agree) on Youtube.

I want to live like common people,
I want to do whatever common people do,
I want to sleep with common people,
I want to sleep with common people, like you.

* I think this drawing of Jarvis looks like my boyfriend. Hoho.
